You may regard Twitter as just a social network website where you can talk with your “mates” and have some fun. To many Internet marketers, it is a place to plug in their advertisement. You may also have noticed some people have thousands to hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers and are following about the majority back. Ever wished you had that many followers? Ever wondered how they got to such a high amount of followers? I mean, wouldn’t it be boring to follow all of them back? How does this relate to marketing at all?

Twitter was founded in 2006, but boomed in promotion during the years of 2008 and 2009. Twitter is compliant with SMS using the standard 140 character texting limit as its maximum post limit. But it is with its search system and following system which has gotten Twitter to rise above many others.

Twitter’s database of more than 100 million users worldwide with billions of tweets, it is one place where you can attract attention. The great thing about Twitter is that its simple to use, easy to understand and you can really use it to the extreme.

The hardest and easiest thing to do is to get followers. Your first few days are the hardest, trying to gain followers. The best way is to follow people first and hope that people will follow you. To achieve this, you should really fill out your profile and have a unique design. You want to market your self and gain the attention of thousands. You will soon start to see Twitter’s viral effect.

About 3 months ago, I created a Twitter account dedicated to following people relevant to SEM Reach. I then realize that the more powerful/influential the person is, the noticed you get. What you want to achieve is more followers than following. The higher this is, the better your chances are of getting noticed. Those with 20 000 followers and following 20 000 people do appear to use a automated way of following people.

Personally, I check out their profile and compare follower/following ratio and follow them. If you follow someone with 1000 following and 20 followers, its best not to follow them as you won’t achieve maximum potential with them. If someone with stats in reverse follows you, it means you have been noticed and are deemed quite important in a global stance.

For example, if someone follows your with a 1:5 following/follwers ratio, the better chances that you will be seen amonsgt the limited followers. What this can achieve is more followers for you. In a marketing point of view, sneaking in affiliate links, promotional tools, links to promote your website and/or referral links will be of paramount benefit to you and your website.

Twitter is really viral. It grows at an exponential rate. A classic example is the recent success of Justin Bieber. Within a few hours of his new found success, he had 500 thousand or so followers. Just a few weeks later, today, he now has 2.5 million followers. Of course he is an exception as he is famous in his own right, but it does show what Twitter can potentially do to you, but on a more realistic scale.

How to market your website through Social Bookmarks.

A lot of successful sites that are there right now have marketed themselves through social bookmarks. Most people don’t exactly know how to use social bookmarks to market their website, so this article will give a quick rundown of social bookmarks and how you can take advantage of them to market your website.

Twitter
Twitter is a unique tool where it is structured as a mini blog. One clear downside with Twitter is that it is flooded with automatic bots and this makes it really hard to get some followers on it who are not bots.

Twitter is very customizable. The first thing you should consider is to have a unique design for your twitter page. Your background should present readers your website URL and a nice image/logo that matches your website. Twitter is a marketing tool, so you need to get followers. Following a few people at first and tweeting is essential in getting followers in the long run. Your tweets should be promotion based. Saying something like “Check out: [URL]” won’t get you anywhere, whereas something like “Free eBook and articles: [URL]” will appeal to readers.

Another marketing technique is to have conversations. Mentioning people (@username) will appeal to followers as they can be sure your not a bot or such and be more inclined to keep on following you and visiting your site. Retweeting (RT) also appeals as it shows that you have been reading their tweets and followers will see this positive interaction and will enforce reason to do business with you.

Facebook
Facebook a strong social networking tool that you can take advantage of due to the reason that it is a worldwide address book of your friends, family, colleagues and companies. Getting and staying in touch with people via the Internet will essentially mean Facebook as it is here to stay.

Setting up a page for your site and changing its design to resemble your site will be essential in gaining traffic. However, before starting, gaining friends from a normal account is paramount. They are the people who you want to refer. The more friends, the more fans/page followers, the more seen your site is.

Adding a logo, description and updating your account appeals to users, as well as having conversations. Adding personal images, and things that interest people will get you a thing called a “like” and comments. This really is a snowball effect. When a few people like something, it gets published onto their account and this could be seen by another and if they like it, another niche of people could potentially see it, and thus your site.

Digg
Digg, as well, is a very powerful tool, and is a lot harder for your website to get on the front page of Digg. To get on the front page, you will need a lot of people to “dig” your website. Think of it as your website is deep underground and people have to dig it out. The more people digging your website, the closer it reaches the top, that is, the front page. This is also a viral tool as your site gets more exposure on the front page.

If your site isn’t being digged then it really means your content isn’t interesting, or you haven’t attracted the right people. To get digged, digging others and creating mutual friends will help you substantially. Another tactic is to be on the lookout for big news. Watch the news read blogs watch live news and be on the scene. So if you would live in New York and they found a van with a bomb inside in times square, and you took a picture of the scene, and put it on your website and then submit it to Digg, your website would get thousands of hits because you would have the first picture. From then on if they like the rest of your content then they will become a daily visitor.
