You may regard Twitter as just a social network website where you can talk with your “mates” and have some fun. To many Internet marketers, it is a place to plug in their advertisement. You may also have noticed some people have thousands to hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers and are following about the majority back. Ever wished you had that many followers? Ever wondered how they got to such a high amount of followers? I mean, wouldn’t it be boring to follow all of them back? How does this relate to marketing at all?
Twitter was founded in 2006, but boomed in promotion during the years of 2008 and 2009. Twitter is compliant with SMS using the standard 140 character texting limit as its maximum post limit. But it is with its search system and following system which has gotten Twitter to rise above many others.
Twitter’s database of more than 100 million users worldwide with billions of tweets, it is one place where you can attract attention. The great thing about Twitter is that its simple to use, easy to understand and you can really use it to the extreme.
The hardest and easiest thing to do is to get followers. Your first few days are the hardest, trying to gain followers. The best way is to follow people first and hope that people will follow you. To achieve this, you should really fill out your profile and have a unique design. You want to market your self and gain the attention of thousands. You will soon start to see Twitter’s viral effect.
About 3 months ago, I created a Twitter account dedicated to following people relevant to SEM Reach. I then realize that the more powerful/influential the person is, the noticed you get. What you want to achieve is more followers than following. The higher this is, the better your chances are of getting noticed. Those with 20 000 followers and following 20 000 people do appear to use a automated way of following people.
Personally, I check out their profile and compare follower/following ratio and follow them. If you follow someone with 1000 following and 20 followers, its best not to follow them as you won’t achieve maximum potential with them. If someone with stats in reverse follows you, it means you have been noticed and are deemed quite important in a global stance.
For example, if someone follows your with a 1:5 following/follwers ratio, the better chances that you will be seen amonsgt the limited followers. What this can achieve is more followers for you. In a marketing point of view, sneaking in affiliate links, promotional tools, links to promote your website and/or referral links will be of paramount benefit to you and your website.
Twitter is really viral. It grows at an exponential rate. A classic example is the recent success of Justin Bieber. Within a few hours of his new found success, he had 500 thousand or so followers. Just a few weeks later, today, he now has 2.5 million followers. Of course he is an exception as he is famous in his own right, but it does show what Twitter can potentially do to you, but on a more realistic scale.
