Focusing on SERPs may seem a hard and never ending task. Some may feel there isn’t any benefit or it isn’t working. However, with the following evidence, it will definitely change your thinking about SERP keywords and rankings.
The choice of your SERP keyword, ie. your major keyword will probably be something easy. You should look for keywords that are going to be searched for, but not have an overwhelming amount of traffic. However, sometimes you have no control on what people use as the anchor text when optimizing links. As your site gets bigger, people will link to your site with a range of keywords. Some may help, some will probably not.
There is one that comes into mind, which is evidence that SERPs does work, and is not relevant to the sites name or a major keyword. Search “Click Here” into Google and this is the result:
Yes, the result is somewhat strange. It comes up with the link to the Adobe site. Why? Well, considering the power of the site, people would tend to be linking to Adobe with such sentences like: “View more offers at Adobe: Click Here” or “Adobe Reader Download: Click Here”. Without any thought, people are linking to sites as such and results like the above tend to be prevalent.
This does show that SERPs works. This isn’t necessary the keyword the owners are looking at, but its what people are linking with, so that means the power of the chosen keyword is important in getting your site to rank well with certain keywords.
