We are a SEM Blog and so we should be targeting that key term. Is it popular though? Personally, I’m not 100% sure about it, unless others agree.
I went to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and found that the term “SEM Blog” achieves 14,800 Global Monthly Searches. It is deemed a “High Advertiser Competition” keyword, so I would say it is quite a good term to target. It also has about 8 million results, so it is a fair amount to top.
There are 160 separate websites for Google Search Engine. They are the site’s ccTLD‘s and the Google.com is the major one. For time reasons, and purpose, I won’t go through all of them, but with the ones I have listed as countries with traffic to SEM Reach, I will search “SEM Blog” and see where we rank:
1. Australia: 7th
2. USA: 9th
3. UK: 6th
4. India: 8th
5. Canada: 8th
6. Switzerland: 18th
7. Singapore: 9th
8. Japan: 42nd
10. France: 9th
From the searches above, it appears that we are ranking quite well after a short amount of time. Although we are targeting SEM Blog right now, we do hope to rank well for another search term which will hopefully come from optimization and through the content we deliver.
So after 3 weeks, I am pleased to say we have achieved first page results for a fairly competitive keyword. Thanks to those who helped and commented!

It’s not enough to simply rank well in the search engines, you also have to make sure the listings you get actually bring you traffic. It doesn’t matter how high you rank or which terms you rank for if your competitors are still getting most of the traffic.
Fortunately, there are some things you can do to ensure that you get more traffic from the listings you get. We’re going to look at the top three ways to make sure you get your fair share of the traffic whenever your site appears in the SERPs.
- Choose your title carefully. You should never use your main keyword phrase alone as your title. Not only is this unlikely to get you much traffic, it’s also possible that it will (when combined with other factors) get your site hit with an over-optimization penalty. Instead, make sure your title makes sense. For example, the title “Buy Green Widgets Here – Free Shipping!” would probably pull more clicks than simply “Green Widgets”.
- Don’t forget to fill in the meta description field. While most search engines ignore the meta description and keywords fields for SEO itself, they do actually use the meta description information as the description users see in the listings. So make sure your description is something exciting that will get people to click!
- Try to make sure your main keyword phrase appears at least once in your title and your description. Whenever someone searches on Google, the words they searched for appear in bold. This helps draw attention, so use it to your advantage. Be sure to use the keywords you anticipate ranking for in both the title and description. If possible, also use those words in your URL. If you can’t use it in the domain name itself, you can name the HTML file after that keyword phrase.
Just these simple steps do help you gain added traffic from SEO listings. It is essential to get the maximum amount of traffic as it can all eventually build up and it will be a key factor in your site’s success.

Local Search
Have you ever searched for a keyword on Google and noticed a large group of local listings at the top? I use an Australian search and simple searches such as “host” will result in a page full of .com.au sites, not .net or .com. This is the power of local searches, and it can be used to target traffic.
This is another great way to grab more search engine traffic. Just submit your website and business to Google local search, and whenever someone from your area searches for a particular keyword phrase related to your business, you’ll show up!
Registering a .com and the Country Code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) may also help your site, if you want to have targeted traffic. You wouldn’t want someone else to snatch the .com since you were focusing on the ccTLD. Optimize the ccTLD, but have the .com for marketing reasons, but still equally optimize that as well. Before you know it, you will gain search engine traffic like never before.
Hopefully these 3 main search engine tips will help your site succeed in search engine traffic. Good luck.
