The people are quickly moving to the Internet to fulfill all their needs. The students, the businessmen, the layman, in fact every one is using web. The web has become extremely powerful and it continues to expand itself. Everyone finds something for himself on the Internet. This means that the number of online users has increased greatly from the past. The people coming to the Internet to find solutions to their problems and needs have increased tremendously over the past few years. This clearly means that the web masters have a greater chance of getting more web traffic.

But this is not good news for all the webmasters. Those who are not willing to work and are not willing to face the competition, are not going to find it easy to get their share of the traffic. The numbers of websites have also increased due to the expansion of the Internet. This means that a person looking for a particular piece of information or for a particular product will easily find thousands of websites for that matter. If you are not prepared to meet the competition then you are not going to be shinning among those thousand websites and that information seeker is not going to pick you. This means that you are not going to get the web traffic.

In the modern times only those online business are going to prosper which can stand out as the market leaders. The niche leaders will get the traffic and in fact they will get a lot of traffic coming to their website. It is not like the old days when a good website with a small portion of budget dedicated to PPC advertisement would make it to the top. Now this is not going to happen. The people look everywhere for their favorite products. They read the reviews, they search in the forums and they ask others. You are going to be there at all these places. You will have to establish your presence on every popular place. Only this can guarantee web traffic and ultimately success of online business.

Remember that there are hundreds of other businesses in your niche fighting and working to get all the traffic. If you are not going to find the unique methods to get web traffic, you are never going to get it. every one is using the traditional methods and there is rare chance of reaching the top with these traditional methods. You will have to make sure that your strategy is better than the others and that you are working harder than the others. Only this thing will ensure success in the longer run.

There should be no doubt in your mind that getting the web traffic is all up to you. You will have to come up with a winning strategy combined with hard work and devotion. If any of these elements is missing, you are not going to reach the top. Your business is not going to get the required traffic and it is ultimately going to end up all in loss.

We are a SEM Blog and so we should be targeting that key term. Is it popular though? Personally, I’m not 100% sure about it, unless others agree.

I went to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and found that the term “SEM Blog” achieves 14,800 Global Monthly Searches. It is deemed a “High Advertiser Competition” keyword, so I would say it is quite a good term to target. It also has about 8 million results, so it is a fair amount to top.

There are 160 separate websites for Google Search Engine. They are the site’s ccTLD‘s and the Google.com is the major one. For time reasons, and purpose, I won’t go through all of them, but with the ones I have listed as countries with traffic to SEM Reach, I will search “SEM Blog” and see where we rank:

1. Australia: 7th
2. USA: 9th
3. UK: 6th
4. India: 8th
5. Canada: 8th
6. Switzerland: 18th
7. Singapore: 9th
8. Japan: 42nd
10. France: 9th

From the searches above, it appears that we are ranking quite well after a short amount of time. Although we are targeting SEM Blog right now, we do hope to rank well for another search term which will hopefully come from optimization and through the content we deliver.

So after 3 weeks, I am pleased to say we have achieved first page results for a fairly competitive keyword. Thanks to those who helped and commented!

SEM is the acronym for Search Engine Marketing. This area of online business deals with promotion of a website’s web presence through increasing their visibility through search engine optimization (SEO), search engine result pages (SERPs), paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion.

SEM looks at how a site can be marketed to gain maximum benefit for its owner. It looks at the long term return on investment (ROI) and the ways this can be achieved.

SEM is seen right throughout the Internet industry. Take Google for an example. You see sponsor ads, adsense ads, adwords ads and SERPs.  What Google is doing is really what every site needs to do to get high popularity and web presence.

To market a site means to get it noticed, to get it seen and to sell itself to its focused niche. Things like contextual ads help the owner to gain funds to keep it running. Optimizing the site with CSS tags helps the site get a higher SERPs. Buying ads on other sites helps the site get traffic. All this is to get the site to have optimum web presence.

You may have noticed that I have used the term “web presence” quite a few times. It is really your site’s Internet footprint. It is how your site has impacted amongst the many other sites out there and really, how well know your site is. To get your site as influential as Google, or Yahoo will take a while, but nonetheless, every site started from an idea; just one small idea, and that is what is needed to become a web giant.
